It’s rare for young country blues genius Pete Molinari to appear at a festival with his full band as he does here and a real treat for us to see the artist described by NME as “part Billie Holliday, part Roy Orbison – totally amazing”, who’s also been nominated as Best Breakthrough Act in the MOJO Honours List 2008 awards. Growing up in Kent, in a large Maltese/Italian/Egyptian family, Molinari became infatuated with the music of Holliday, John Coltrane and Bob Dylan, while his friends were listening to Nirvana and Oasis. In 2003, a month in New York became two years and Molinari built up a cult following playing beat-era Greenwich Village cafes and bars such as the Bitter End, Café Wha? and the Gaslight. His first album A Virtual Landslide received 8/10 in an NME review and MOJO described it as “an early contender for one of 2008’s landmark albums”. petemolinari.co.uk myspace.com/petemolinari
